Place Where I Belong
The Indian Child Welfare Act (ICWA) was enacted in 1978 in response to assimilation efforts that removed tribal children from their homes through forced placement and adoption into non-Native families. This law intends to protect the best interests of Tribal children and to promote the stability and security of Native tribes and families.
